CTO

We are looking for a Chief Technology Officer who will be responsible for the technological infrastructure of the company. The CTO will come in and provide technical leadership for our business building up the work already in place. Their main responsibility will be a couple of mobile applications and backend framework which powers our physical IOT product. Any prior experience working in IOT, Educational Technology, Gaming would be desirable, but not essential. The role has enormous scope for growth as we look to bring on additional engineers. We want to bring someone onboard who grows with the company, gains broad exposure to all elements of building a high growth startup, and develops into a fantastic leader in the process. About Stepping Stones Games Stepping Stones Games is the founding company of Rock Stepper, Stepping Stones Games’ first product. Rock Stepper is an educational, interactive and adaptable play mat. Modern entertainment and education are becoming increasingly reliant on screentime. Rock Stepper’s unique voice-first learning environment gets kids away from screens, giving their eyes a much needed break. The Rock Stepper online platform allows children to compete and collaborate with their friends and the wider community, allowing them to socialise and encourage each other whilst they learn and play together. An important element to Rock Stepper is that Rock Stepper encourages physical movement, which in turn improves focus and cognitive ability. Getting active means faster learning, more smiles and better sleep. Whilst Stepping Stones Games is a small startup, we are in the extremely fortunate position of having resource and capability readily available for support due to the co-founders existing companies. We are a small team which means the person joining in this senior position will have significant influence over the product and culture of the company as it builds and grows. Requirements & Responsibilities: • Hands on approach in early stages as development team is built • Ongoing improvement, optimisation of current technical stack • Defining technology strategy • Setting our product vision, roadmap and timelines with Head of Product & CEO • Developing best practice operations, process, ways of working • Building an internal development team as we grow • Recruitment and management of freelance developers and resources • Working with hardware manufacturers • Reporting directly to the CEO • Communicate technology strategy to future partners and investors • Use feedback from users and stakeholders to make necessary improvements and adjustments. • Be prepared to take a hands-on approach when short on resource • Technical support and input into development of consumer facing website • Experience working in a start-up environment desirable but not essential Our stack: • AWS (Cognito, Lambda, RSD) • Native React • Unity Qualifications • Comfortable developing Android and iOS applications • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, modern JavaScript and its associated frameworks such as React, Redux, Angular or Vue • AWS stack • Are capable of writing and utilising RESTful API services Experience with cloud providers (e.g. AWS) and containerisation (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) • Familiarity with databases (e.g. MySQL, RDS), Experience (not essential but is desirable) • Software + IOT projects • Edtech • Retail products • Game mechanics and gamification What you’ll get • £60k salary and share options • Hybrid working (2 to 3 days working from the office in central Soho) • 25 days annual leave • 10 days’ work from anywhere policy.
