About the role
You know how we all use messaging apps like Whatsapp, Discord or Telegram to talk about the things we love? Whether it is relentless chatter about your sports teams performance on the weekend, sharing new songs with your music group, gossiping about the latest season of love island or real-time gaming chat? Our habits have shifted into messaging apps, and we exist to help our customers take advantage of this shift, providing them with software & expertise to build messaging communities with their fans and customers in existing apps like Discord & Telegram.
We’re a fast-growing early stage startup based out of the UK. Excitingly, we’re already working with some of the largest music artists in the world at Warner Music Group, with podcasters & YouTubers big and small, and brands across media, fashion & FMCG.
We’re hiring a fully remote, and highly talented Community Manager to help us deliver community & moderation strategy for our customers. You are going to get to work on some pretty cool communities, we can promise you that. We welcome self-starting, fast learning, talented people who have existing experience managing communities and feel totally at home in Discord.
Start date: September 2022 onwards
Type of contract: Full-time
Location: Fully remote, but willing to work in UK or Western Europe time zones
Who we are looking for
We’re looking for a Community Manager who is passionate about launching & growing communities. You’ll know everything there is to know about Discord (and ideally Telegram) and you are excited about sharing your community knowledge directly with our customers. We’re looking for someone to be the foundation of our community team as we grow (either as an exceptional manager or as a future team lead).
From starting a community on Discord or Telegram, to growing & managing a community, you’ll be working directly with our customers to set them up for success. You’ll feel confident in advising them on their community strategy, and you’ll proactively reach out with updates, insights & ideas on how to improve, grow, moderate & monetise their communities.
You’ll build a moderation strategy for customers and help Levellr build a cohort of amazing moderators who we can plug into communities when required and you’ll work closely with product, sales & marketing teams to implement your customer learnings into the rest of the business.
You’ll have:
- A minimum of 3+ years of experience in community management
Strong knowledge of Discord, bonus points for Telegram - A proven track record of successful community engagement or growth. Comfortable creating community strategy and advising on community moderation
- Experience working directly with customers/community owners
- Experience with customer support & service
- Proven ability to learn fast, and get stuff done
- Self-motivated, proactive, independent working style
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Enjoys wearing several hats
Ideally, you’d also have (or be very excited about acquiring):
- Copywriting skills, to help us share our community knowledge with the world via our blog & customer-facing presentations
- Previous remote-work experience
- Previous startup/growth-stage experience
- Experience working with more moderators and helping them grow
It’s important to us that we can spend some time together on video calls each week and occasionally work together on our customers’ communities, so we’re looking for someone willing to work the majority of the hours in UK or Western Europe time zones.
Who we are
Levellr is run by two co-founders, Tom (CEO) and Ben (CTO), who have experience working at start-ups (MyCujoo, Caster Level) and big companies (YouTube, Eleven Sports). We’ve been working on the business since early 2021. We’re backed by an advisory board who have 5 successful exits between them. We’ve built a product that is growing revenue by 20%+ per month, and currently making waves in the music & creator industry, and now we’re beginning to grow our team.
This is not your typical corporate role. Nor is this a funding-fueled hype machine without a real product that fixes real problems. We’re an early stage startup charting our own course and building a company that we would love to work for.
We work remotely. You’ll see us in calls from London coworking spaces, suburban home offices, and the occasional Airbnb.
We work flexibly. We work around school runs, workouts at the gym, meals with the kids, and the occasional random day off for day trips or long weekends.
We get stuff done. We have a bias for action, and we love creating value from nothing but our code and our conversations.
We thrive in uncertainty. We listen to market feedback as we iterate continuously to build products our customers love.
We avoid hierarchy. We do the right thing without needing anyone to chase us or watch over our shoulders.
We aim for balance. We work to build a business that will give our teams (and their families!) balanced and happy lives for many years to come.
We value autonomy, independence, transparency, and trust. We always do the right thing for the team and the business, even if it costs us. We give each other radically honest feedback and challenge assumptions. We know that people need independence and freedom to thrive, but we also know that we need to work together as a team to make the biggest impact.
You probably won’t be happy with us if you expect to be told exactly what to do, need a step-by-step process for everything you do, or dislike change. You probably won’t be happy with us if you prefer to work alone, dislike feedback, or want to stick rigidly to a set of responsibilities. We’re in a fast changing market, and we need to change fast with it. But we promise to work together continuously and systematically on finding the right path for everyone!
We are an equal opportunity employer and we aim to build a diverse team. We do not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status. We’re open and inclusive, and it’s important to us that you are too.
Benefits
Because we are a remote first company, benefits will vary based on where you live. We take the health and well-being of our teammates seriously. Just tell us what you need to be happy and successful, and we’ll try our best to accommodate.
- 5 weeks holiday allowance (plus public holidays)
- Home office allowance or coworking space stipend
- Fully remote & flexible working hours
- Equal maternity and paternity benefits
- Stock option plan

Interview process
We don’t want to suck lots of your time — we appreciate interviewing is a big enough energy sap as it is. We usually conduct 2-3 interviews, and may ask for a small project for specific roles.
Want to join our community?
Congrats if you’ve read this far! We aren’t big on formalities, but we are big on finding people want to do work they care about. Enthusiasm beats skills (which can be learnt!). So if you want to get a step ahead, share a brief cover letter and also share any projects or skills that you’re most proud of.
